Being barefoot is all the rage these days. The idea that your foot is designed to support you without any help from foam and rubber actually makes really good sense. Most shoes are designed to try to take the pressure off your foot and really just end up squeezing it ala some crazy ancient geisha ritual. Most of us grew up wearing normal shoes and I’ll bet that if you look down at your feet you’ll notice that your toes look squished together. They’re supposed to be fanned out to help support your weight, but years of super fancy, extra-supportive, pump action shoes have actually misshapen your feet.
“Well then I cast off these cursed shoes and vow to never don them again; it’s a barefoot life for me forever!” Not so fast… You’re going to have to ease your feet into this change. While it’s certainly for the better, it’s going to take some time. And this brings us to Sanuks (rhymes with sand books – without the d & b); and to be more specific, Sidewalk Surfers. They’re not shoes, they’re sandals…

This bike light is by far one of the best mid-range red flashers I have used to date. I have bought my fair share of cheapies and every time felt a slight twinge of fear that the car coming up from behind me wouldnt see me. As soon as I threw this bad boy on my hog (bike) I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt I would be seen. It’s two super bright led’s, one difused and one beamed, make it very hard not to notice. They are supposed to mess with your brain or eyes… or something like that… and they do. They are so bright that my friend refused to ride behind me due to his burning retinas and street blindness. I felt proud.
The mounting is secure, easy to take on and off, and it even has a belt clip so you can clip it onto your person. The batteries have a really long …

If you are needing a compact, super light wieght canister stove then the MSR Pocket Rocket is definately one to consider. Wieghing only 3 oz, this thing boils water in less than 4 minutes. For medium to light cooking, this thing is perfect. Folding down into a canister the size of your palm makes it great for ultralight backpacking or even just hiking. It is great for small to medium meals, or as a secondary stove for your multi-course backpacking meals.
Stability with big pots can be tricky since it only has three prongs. Unlike the Jetboil, you will get heat lossout of the sides, but the boiling times are still just fine. Personally, I don’t like that it is missing an auto-lighter, but if I am going ultra-light…

Whether you’re spending your afternoons on day hikes through comfortable state park trails or taking week-long excursions out into the bush, trekking poles are an extremely valuable tool that help you save energy and maximize performance. It may seem awkward to carry around poles when you’re not using them and those that do collapse on themselves can do so in a way that can compromise the integrity of the pole or with mechanisms that wear out over time. Not so with the Black Diamond Ultra Distance Trekking Poles. These carbon-fiber, light-weight poles fold up in a unique way: an elastic cord in the middle applies pressure that pulls the pole together, but pulling the pole in the opposite direction allows it to be “broken apart”, collapsing down…

I was on a backpacking trip up in the Pecos with my little brothers about a year ago, age 27 at the time, when my feet decided to grow a size. Let me tell you, that was a very painful trip back. My feet went from a 14 to 15 overnight. So being the researcher that I am, I decided that my next pair of boots were going to need to meet some requirements.
Through all of my research I happened upon the Asolo 520gv and decided…
